Future Bodies

In a series of material investigations Helene explores the metamorphosis of the future body.

What becomes of the human form when the Earth no longer sustains it? As we drift past the Anthropocene, the vulnerability of flesh and blood may soon be replaced by the resilience of steel.

In this project, which consists of a series of material investigations, Helene draws inspiration from the hyper-sculpted anatomy of bodybuilders where the human physique is pushed to its absolute limit.

She has made a series of metallic bodies: silhouettes that challenge our definition of survival and redefine the boundaries of the self. Through the lens of materiality and craft, these steel constructions act as exoskeletons for a species in transition.

Helene wonders: If our biology ultimately fails us, is metal our only hope for a future? Or are we merely crafting the monuments of our own extinction?
